Forecaster predicts Dawson’s population at 100,000 by 2030

Community leaders are both hopeful and hesitant after hearing a north Georgia real estate forecaster say he expects the county's population to quadruple in the next 15 years.

"Our plan has always been to have 50,000 folks in 2030," said Dawson County Commission Chairman Mike Berg.

The Varsity boys' basketball season has come to an end.

Coach Thad Burgess' squad lost to Franklin County in the opening round of the Region 7-AAA tournament, 63-57.

Tiger grapplers finish in top 5

Coach Arron Haynes' Dawson County High School wrestling team competed at the State Traditional tournament in Macon Feb. 12-14. The Tigers took six wrestlers to the meet led by Gavin Brown (195 pounds), Harrison Adams (138 pounds), Jeremy Whalen (145 pounds), Brett Whalen (182 pounds), Ty Williams (heavyweight), and Justin Evans (113 pounds). All six wrestlers finished in the top ten.

Two-time state champion, Gavin Brown, finished in fourth place at state. Brown moved up a weight class this season and completed the season with a 44-8 record.

The Dawson County girls' soccer team opened the season with wins over Winder-Barrow, 7-0, on Feb. 10 and North Forsyth, 2-0, Feb. 13.

Coach Jed Lacey's team is currently ranked No, 7 in the latest Class AAA rankings.

Despite the cold weather, baseball season for Coach Thad Burgess' Dawson County Tiger team began with a scrimmage game against Elbert County on Saturday.

On a chilly and windy Valentine's Day, the Tigers played seven innings in front of a decent crowd of Blue Devil and Tiger fans.
