It was "throwback night" at Dawson County's season opener against Tallulah Falls last week in Dawsonville. Both head coaches, Steve Sweat and Thad Burgess, decided to break out the old uniforms in a tribute to former players in the program.
"We decided to do this because we were playing a longtime opponent in Tallulah Falls," Sweat said. "We wore some uniforms that some of the mothers of my current players played in when they played for me years ago."
Dawson County put up a spirited effort against a very athletic Jefferson football team Friday night at Tigers Stadium. The Tigers fell short 21-10 to end the team's hopes of a state playoff game.
Head Coach Jeff Lee's Tigers finished the season 5-5. The record is the best regular season record that the Tigers have posted since 2005 when the team finished 7-3. It has now been seven years since the Tigers have reached the playoffs.
During a time when most high school students are enjoying the pool and their time off from studies, the Dawson County High School cross country team is putting in several miles a day in anticipation of the upcoming season.
