JV boys take two

The Dawson County High School junior varsity boys basketball team improved its record to 6-0 last week. The team traveled to play against Woody Gap and came away with a 45-30 win.

Girls improve to 8-0 on season

Dawson County High School junior varsity girls head coach Anne Hyams' Lady Tigers improved their record to 8-0 with a decisive win of West Forsyth last week. Tied at 6-6 after one quarter of play, the Lady Tigers used some stingy defense in the Dec. 20 game to limit West to only one second quarter point.

Tigers keep winning

Gunnar Armstrong scored a team-high 17 points to lead Dawson County to a 42-38 win over White County last week in Dawsonville. Armstrong hit a clutch three-pointer with less than a minute to go to tie the Dec. 18 game.

Ladies pick up region win

The Dawson County High School varsity girls basketball team controlled all aspects of the game last week against White County. The Lady Tigers picked up a 79-39 win at home Dec, 18 against White County.

Dominy named player of year

Dawson County High School senior Tyler Dominy was named Region 7-AAA Offensive Player of the Year last week. Dominy led the Tigers to a 6-5 record this season and a state playoff appearance.

The Dawson County High School varsity boys' basketball team remains undefeated after picking up three wins last week. The Tigers defeated visiting Pinecrest Academy on Dec. 11 by a, 47-28, score.

Ladies playing good defense

Senior point guard Carly Gilreath led the Dawson County Lady Tigers to three wins last week. Gilreath scored 56 total points, an average of 18.7 points per game, in wins against Pinecrest Academy, 74-29, Schley County, 67-25, and Brookstone Academy, 69-25.

Wrestlers continue to improve

Dawson County High improved its wrestling record to 17-5 with wins over North Hall and White County last week. Under Head Coach Arron Haynes, the team defeated White County, 64-11, to begin the tri-match at North Hall High School on Dec. 11.

Wrestler has perfect record

Tiger wrestler Gavin Brown is perfect on the season with a 21-0 record for Coach Arron Haynes' team. Brown is dominating the 182-pound weight class so far. Brown's team is currently 13-4 in dual matches on the year.

Ladies pick up first region win

The Dawson County Lady Tiger basketball team had a productive week. The team went 2-1, with wins over Fannin County, 49-22, and Pacelli, 72-14, and a loss to Banks County, 66-58.

Defense key in wins

With the offense struggling it was head coach Thad Burgess' team's defense that was extraordinary in three big wins last week. Opposing offenses managed only 80 total points, for an average of 26.7 points per game, during the three game stretch.

Tigers on right track

The Dawson County varsity boys' basketball team picked up where it left off last season. The Tigers captured two wins in their opening week, both against Lumpkin County, to take a 2-0 record into week two of action.

Grapplers take third

It was a busy week for the Dawson County varsity wrestling team. On Friday and Saturday the team traveled to Towns County High School for the King of the Mountain wrestling tournament. Coach Arron Haynes' team fared well and came away with third place out of 23 teams.

Ladies start season 2-0

The Lady Tiger basketball team opened the season with two big wins over neighboring Lumpkin County last week. On Nov. 27, Dawson County opened the season with a huge win over the Lady Indians, 49-26, in Dahlonega.

Led team to state championship

When he began coaching basketball, Dawson County's Steve Sweat never imagined that he would be coaching a girls' team, much less guiding them to a state championship game. Ladies 9-1 overall

The Lady Tigers completed their toughest week of the season so far last week. Dawson County split games with an overtime win against West Hall, 3-2, and a loss at No. 1-ranked in Class AAA Blessed Trinity on Thursday, 2-0.

Gilreath player of the year

Dawson County senior Carly Gilreath had a couple of big goals to accomplish in her final high school season. First, she wanted to surpass 1,000 points for her career, something she did back in December in a win over Hoke's Bluff, Ala. in the Battle of the States tournament in Hiawassee.

Tough week for Tigers

Coach Jed Lacey knew last week was going to be tough for his Tiger soccer team. Playing two ranked teams in three days is physically and mentally demanding. The Tigers split games with a 3-0 win over West Hall on Tuesday before dropping a 3-0 decision to Blessed Trinity on Thursday.

Battle of two top 10s

Friday was a battle between two Class AAA top 10- ranked teams as the No. 4 Lady Tigers played a tough match against No. 7-ranked White County (7-3) at Tiger Stadium. Dawson County came out on top with a 1-0 victory.

Boys win hard fought game

Dawson County High School varsity soccer coach Jed Lacey was noticeably unhappy with how his third-ranked Dawson County Tigers played against White County on March 22 at Tiger Stadium. "It was a very sluggish game," Lacey said. "I knew coming back from the Tournament of Champions in Jekyll Island we would have to get the engines going again. This was not one of our better games, but we pushed through it and did enough to win. I'm glad we got that game out of our system."

Weather hinders team

Fighting the elements and some good Class AAA teams, the Dawson County High School varsity Tigers baseball team went 1-2 last week. Weather was an issue last week. On March 18, the Tigers were rained out against White County. The game was pushed back a day and was played on March 19 in Cleveland. Dawson County came out on the good end of a 4-3 win.
