Dawson County defeated Fannin County last Tuesday, 160-179, in a match played at Crystal Falls Golf Course in Dawsonville. It was the first win of the season for the Tigers (1-1).

Baseball Tigers win first game

It was very cold last Monday as the Tigers played host to Gilmer County High School. Despite the wind and frigid temperatures, Dawson rallied to take an 8-4 victory over the Bobcats. It was the first game of the season for both teams.

Ladies make it to Sweet Sixteen

Dawson County High School varsity girls basketball coach Steve Sweat said at the beginning of the season that he anticipated Region 7-AAA to be one of the toughest in the state. Sweat proved to be right, as all four teams from the region advanced to the "Sweet Sixteen" round of the state tourney Feb. 21 and 22.

Region 7-AAA defeated all four teams from Region 5-AAA; East Hall defeated North Murray, 61-36, Buford won over Ringgold, 64-29, North Hall edged No. 1-seed Sonoraville, 62-53, and in the biggest game of all, Dawson County defeated a very talented Cartersville team, on ...

No. 8 ranked Tigers defeat North Forsyth

The Dawson County varsity boys' soccer team, ranked No. 8 in Class AAA, defeated North Forsyth in Coal Mountain, 2-0 on Feb. 21.

It was a scoreless battle in the first half, but that soon changed with a goal by Tiger Brandon Lund on an assist by Cole Edwards at the 33:33 mark of the second half.

Crowd energizes Tigers

Chants of "Sweet 16" rocked Ford E. Phillips Gymnasium on Friday night. The Dawson County Tigers punched their ticket to the next round of the state basketball playoffs with a 55-43 win over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.

Dawson County controlled the tempo in the first quarter and took a 6-4 lead with 3:16 remaining in the quarter on a made shot by Lucas Pain. The Tigers never surrendered that lead.

Brown crowned champion

Tiger Gavin Brown was crowned champion at the State Traditional Wrestling Championships on Feb. 22. The tournament was a one-day event held at Buford High School.

Brown, who wrestles at 182 pounds, opened the tournament with a 4-1 decision over Isaiah Hale from North Hall. With the win, Brown advanced to the semi-finals.

Team sees firsts to start the season

The Dawson County High School varsity baseball team recorded several firsts for the season on opening day Feb. 19.

The team picked up its first win of the season, head coach Thad Burgess picked up his first win as coach and pitcher Logan Burt recorded his first win from the mound.
