When the final buzzer sounded on Friday night, something happened at Tiger Stadium that hadn't occurred since Aug. 29, 2008 when Dawson County defeated visiting Lumpkin County 26-23 in double overtime.
The Dawson County Lady Tiger softball team picked up two important Region 8-AA wins during the past week. On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers defeated Banks County, 7-2, at home and then on Thursday the team defeated Rabun County, 5-2.
Head Coach Jed Lacey, current head boys' soccer coach, has been named the new girls head soccer coach at Dawson County High School. Lacey has had a successful run as boys' coach at the school with two runs in the state tournament. In his second year the Tigers were in the Sweet 16.
Head coach Jimmy Pruett's Dawson County Lady Tiger softball team had a busy and eventful week. On Tuesday the team traveled to Blue Ridge for a game against Region 8-AA foe Fannin County. The Lady Tigers came out on the short end of an 8-inning, 3-2 loss to the Lady Rebels.
The first round of state for the Dawson County Tiger men's soccer team was a defensive battle with Jackson County. Coach Jed Lacey's team prevailed in the second half taking a 2-1 victory and advancing to the Sweet Sixteen.
