Eagles start off slow
The Riverview Middle School football team hosted a jamboree with Pickens and Clear Creek middle schools last week in Dawsonville. The Aug. 16 event was a chance for first year head coach Benjy Edwards to evaluate his players before the regular season begins.
Team has tough week
It was a tough opening week for the Dawson County Middle School softball team. The Lady Tigers dropped a 15-0 decision to Clear Creek on Tuesday and fell 14-0 to Jasper Middle on Friday.
Coach: Pleased with game play
Dawson County Middle School football traveled to Jasper Middle School for a preseason jamboree against Jasper and Fannin County middle schools last week. Coach Thomy Edwards and his staff got a chance to see his team in action against a different opponent during the Aug. 16 action.
Lady Eagles announce players
Last Thursday was hot and humid but that didn't stop the Riverview Middle School softball team from holding tryouts for the upcoming season. More than 15 girls braved the weather to give it their best for head coach Jeff Compton.
Edwards takes helm of program at Riverview
Riverview Middle School began football practice under first year head coach Benji Edwards last week. Edwards had been an assistant coach for 4 years before taking the head position this spring.
Teams prepare
The Dawson County Middle School football team has been using early morning practices to prepare for the 2012 season. The Tigers have been starting at 6:30 a.m. in order to beat the heat.
Young team goes to high school
Head coach Jessie Crane's Dawson County Middle School softball team attended a fundamental camp at Dawson County High School last week. The camp instructors were varsity coaches Jimmy Pruett, Nickie Rogers and Mark Ragsdale.
Ladies are champions
It took almost 57 minutes before the game was decided in the Mountain League Soccer championship game between Riverview and crosstown rival Dawson County last Thursday afternoon. The Lady Eagles were awarded a hand ball penalty and capitalized when full back Tina Libao blasted a shot past the Lady Tiger goalie to score the lone goal of the game.
Eagles finish as runners-up
The Riverview Middle School boys soccer team lost an exciting 2-1 decision to Clear Creek Middle School in the Mountain League Championship last Thursday at home. Coach Phil Branson's team scored first in the game.
Eagles continue on right path
The Riverview Middle School girls soccer team ran its record to 4-0-2 with a tie against Pickens Middle, 0-0, on and a big win over Clear Creek, 5-0, last week. The March 5 game was a hard fought battle against a very determined Pickens team.
Lady Eagles blank Jasper
The Riverview Middle School girls soccer team defeated Jasper Middle School 9-0 last week in Dawsonville. "This was the best passing game we have had this year," said head coach John Lundy. "The girls really worked together, which allowed seven different players to score."
Middle schools meet
Anytime Riverview and Dawson County middle schools match up in any sporting event, spectators know that it will be a hard fought battle. Such was the case Feb. 23 when the girls soccer teams from both schools met at Dawson County Middle for the annual showdown.
Middle schoolers break record
The Riverview Middle School Lady Eagle's soccer team defeated Clear Creek, 6-0, last week. With the win the team has won 22-straight games, more than any other team, in any sport, in Dawson County history.
Lady Eagles take down Jasper
The eighth grade Riverview Lady Eagles defeated Jasper Middle School, 31-27, last week. Tabitha Morrison led all scorers in the Jan. 24 game with 13 points.
Eighth graders lose to Fannin County
Head coach Jonathan Tinsley's eighth grade boys basketball team at Dawson County Middle lost a close 41-35 match-up against Fannin County last week at home. The Jan. 19 game was close throughout with the visiting Rebels.

Middle school teams merging
In what is being billed as both a cost-saving and competitive measure, Dawson County and Riverview middle schools will combine their football, softball and wrestling programs, as well as their football cheerleading squads.

A talented Riverview Middle boys soccer team went into the recent championship game with a lot of confidence. Coach Patrick Johnston's team defeated Pickens 4-1 in the semi-finals to force a match-up with Clear Creek Middle School in the championship game March 28.

A classic game between two equally skilled teams took place recently at Dawson County Middle School. The Mountain League Championship on March 28 between Dawson County and Riverview middle schools fares well for the future of soccer in Dawson County.
Lady Eagles outlast rivals
The Riverview Middle School Lady Eagle soccer team avenged an earlier defeat to rival Dawson County Middle with a 4-2 win March 21. Earlier this season, the Lady Tigers defeated Riverview by a 3-1 score.

The Riverview Middle School boys soccer team defeated Dawson County Middle, 4-1, last week. Coach Patrick Johnston's team followed Thursday's win with a 9-0 thrashing of Jasper Middle on Friday.
