Dawson County native Natalie Burt was crowned Miss KARE for Kids 2012 on Saturday evening at Riverview Middle School.
A junior at Dawson County High School, the veteran beauty queen, who has been competing in pageants since elementary school, is excited to be the face of KARE for Kids for the next year.
Barbara Wallace couldn't think of a single reason why she was receiving a letter from the governor's office when she checked her mail one morning earlier this summer.
"It just didn't make sense. Why in the world would the governor be writing to us?" she said.

Sitting in a swing on the front stoop of his family's tent at Lumpkin Campground, Michael Hughes leans back and closes his eyes.
"This is an enchanted place for me, a place of reflection where time stands still," he said. "I do a lot of traveling, but no matter where I am in the world, when it's time for campmeeting, this is where I am."
An annual tradition will light up Lumpkin Campground on Sunday as families and friends gather to whitewash tree trunks in preparation for a weeklong spiritual revival known as campmeeting.
"We painted the trees so we wouldn't run into them before we got electricity," said Thelma Byrd, who has attended campmeeting each summer for more than eight decades.
With a cowboy hat to block the summer sun and a truckload of fresh vegetables he's not old enough to drive into town, Jacob McPherson looks like a veteran as he approaches a customer at the local farmer's market.
"That's a Grenadier cabbage," said the 12-year-old, who credits his grandfather for instilling his love for gardening. "I grew it, and I picked it all last night."
Walking into her new home Saturday, Bethany Berg said she thanked God for giving her something so perfect and special.
"The house is absolutely perfect ... everything about it is everything I could have wanted," she said.
