DCHS fine arts hosts upcoming events

The Fine Arts programs at Dawson County High School have been busy this holiday season preparing many fun events for the whole family. All the upcoming programs will be held at the DCHS Performing Arts Center located at 1665 Perimeter Road. The community is invited to attend a myriad of entertainment from whimsical art to traditional holiday tunes.

“Dreamland” winter art show runs until Dec. 8

The DCHS and Dawson County Junior High School art students created pieces for the winter art show “Dreamland” which are on display at the Performing Arts Center until 3:30 p.m. Dec. 8. A reception will be held at 5 p.m. Dec. 7 with an awards ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. The art show is free and all are welcome to attend.

DCHS Drama travels to Dulac in “Shrek the Musical”

The drama department has been busy rehearsing “Shrek the Musical,” the 2008 Broadway play based on the 2001 hit family film. Come see Shrek and his friends at the Performing Arts Center. There will be shows for elementary schools at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Dec. 7-8. The opening night performance is 7 p.m. Dec. 8. There will be two shows on Saturday Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $5.

Chorus hosts annual Christmas concert

The DCHS and DCHJS Choral program will be performing their annual Christmas concert 6:30 p.m. Dec. 11.  Choral Director Spencer Wright says the combined concert will have over 300 students participating. There will be a wide range of holiday music from the familiar classics to some unfamiliar tunes. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students.

DCHS Band to perform Dec. 12

The Dawson County High School Tiger Pride Band will be hosting a holiday concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 12. Admission is $5 per person with a maximum of $20 per family.
