Georgia shoppers will get a break when buying a variety of school supplies this weekend, though the savings may be too late for many local parents.
School starts on Thursday for Dawson County students.
The sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 10 and concludes at midnight Aug. 11.
General school supplies, clothing and personal computers are exempt from sales tax, though there are provisions.
Clothing and footwear must be priced $100 or less per item. Personal computers and personal computer-related accessories must be less than $1,000.
And general school supplies to be used in the classroom or in classroom-related activities must fall at $20 or less to be exempt.
The exemption does not apply to: Clothing accessories, jewelry, handbags, umbrellas, eyewear, watches, watchbands, cellular devices, furniture, computer-related accessories designed for recreation and items used in a trade or business, for resale or rentals.
Sales in theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments, restaurants and airports are also excluded.
