Keep Dawson County Beautiful and the Dawson County Marshal’s Office encourage everyone to participate in this year’s second collaborative district-wide community clean up event Nov. 21.
Dawson County’s fall community clean up event takes place in District 2 and will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the courthouse parking lot on Shoal Creek Road.
Litter pick-up routes and supplies will be distributed to volunteer groups.
Breakfast sandwiches and coffee will be provided for volunteers courtesy of Bojangle’s of Dawsonville.
In an effort to promote the general cleaning and beautification of Dawson County, Keep Dawson County Beautiful and the Dawson County Marshal’s Office have partnered to hold at least two district-wide community clean ups each year.
“We began with District 1 in the spring of 2009 and look forward to working in District 2 in November,” said Keep Dawson County Beautiful Executive Director Cathy Brooks.
“Next year we will continue with Districts 3 and 4,” she added.
The aim of the cooperation is to protect the quality of the environment, as well as to enhance the natural beauty of Dawson County, according to Brooks.
“During our spring event, volunteers collected 20 bags of litter and 18 tires in just three hours on clean up day,” said Sgt. Robbie Irvin of the marshal’s office.
“That was a good effort considering the inclement weather that day. We hope our next clean up will bring us better weather and give us the opportunity to increase our achievements,” he added.
On April 16 the Dawson County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to proclaim Dawson County Community Clean Up days to promote environmental consciousness, including litter prevention and recycling.
To participate in the District 2 community clean up, individuals and groups may register by contacting Brooks at (706) 344-3501, Ext. 255 or e-mail cbrooks@dawsoncounty.org.
