An autopsy is scheduled for a Dawsonville woman who died after a wreck Tuesday in western Dawson County.

Sandra Tamasi, 73, was driving north on Hubbardsville Road, near the Cherokee County line, when the vehicle she was driving left the roadway and came to a stop against a tree.

Dawson County Coroner Ted Bearden said there were no signs of external injuries and was unsure if a medical issue caused Tamasi to leave the rural roadway.

Tamasi had an extensive medical history, according to Bearden.

"She was traveling at a very low rate of speed when she left the road. We're not sure if she realized something was wrong and tried to slow down when she wrecked," he said.

A spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol post in Cumming said the wreck was reported at about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Bearden said it was clear Tamasi had been in the car for a while when emergency officials were notified.

Tamasi is the county's first roadway fatality of 2010. There were six fatalities on Dawson County roads in 2009 and 10 in 2008.
