Arbor Day has been celebrated in Dawson County with an Eastern Weeping Redbud tree.
The tree was planted at a celebration on Feb. 21 at Veterans Memorial Park.
Dawson County Chair Mike Berg read a proclamation declaring the day.
In the County of Dawson, we urge all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day and to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands, the proclamation read.
Farmington Woods Apartment Complex was recognized at the celebration.
Eight years ago, we started a program to honor people who have come in to the county, developed land and preserved trees, said Dave Hinderlite, chair of the tree preservation committee. We think they have come in and done a wonderful job.
The Farmington Woods complex, located on Perimeter Road, was developed by TBG Residential.
Brad Smith, senior vice president of TBG Residential, and Mike Brandt, vice president of construction, did the honors of planting the tree.
A stone to commemorate the event was placed beside the tree by Keep Dawson County Beautiful. Karen Armstrong, chair of KDCB, said it was an honor to be able to provide the stones. Weve provided the stones for the past couple of years for individuals who share the same aspirations as we do, she said.
