Tigers prepare for playoffs
The Dawson County Middle School Tigers are preparing for the postseason. The Tigers will be traveling to Fannin County for the first round of the Mountain League Region tournament.
The Tigers finished the regular season with a record of 2-3.
DCMS hosted Fannin last Thursday, but the game was called at halftime due to bad weather. Fannin was leading 28-0 when the game was called.
“If our offensive line can block and the defense can tackle we could have a shot of keeping up with them,” said DCMS coach Thomy Edwards. “We need to stop No. 42 and No. 14 if we want a chance at winning and moving on to the next round.
“We had players in positions to make the stop, but we could not bring those guys down.”
Eagles hope to close season with a win
The Riverview Middle School Eagles finished their season Monday.
The Eagles hosted Pickens County after last Thursday’s game was stopped at halftime due to bad weather. Results of Monday’s game were unavailable at presstime.
On Thursday, the two teams were tied at the half, 8-8, but were expected to restart the game from the beginning on Monday.
“We were able to move the ball pretty well last week and our defense caused two turnovers,” RMS coach Mark Thomason said Monday, “so it should be an exciting game.”
So far the Eagles are 0-4-1 on the season, but things have looked up with every game.
“The season hasn’t went so well, but we have gotten better each week and that’s all you can ask,” Thomason said.
