Three candidates have qualified to run for two open seats on the Dawsonville City Council.

Two current city council members, Angie Smith and Mike Sosebee, have qualified, as has another person familiar to city council races, Frank Craft.

Smith and Sosebee were elected last November to temporarily fill the unexpired terms of then-Mayor Pro-tem James Grogan and Council Member Calvin Byrd when the pair ran for mayor.

It was a crowded field that election season, with five people contending for the two council seats Craft, Smith, Sosebee, Alan Metzel and Tom Schaide.

Sosebee netted the highest number of votes with 489 (34.4 percent), followed by Smith at 428 (30.1 percent). The next closest contender was Craft at 217 (15.2 percent), Metzel at 174 votes (12.24 percent), and Schaide at 113 votes (7.9 percent).

Qualifying ended Friday, Aug. 30, at 5 p.m. The qualifying fee was $180.

The next Dawsonville City Council meeting is scheduled forMonday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m.
