Dawson under winter weather advisory starting Friday

A Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect for portions of north and central Georgia beginning at 5 a.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Periods of snow or rain mixed with snow could bring up to 1 inch of snow to Dawson County. 

According to the NWS, a Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause traffic difficulties. Drivers should be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility.

The latest forecast predicts a 30 percent chance of rain after midnight tonight, mixing with snow after 4 a.m Friday. The low will be around 34 degrees. 

The high during the day Friday will be near 37 degrees, with an 80 percent chance of precipitation. 

Snow is not expected to accumulate until Friday night, when the low will be around 28 degrees and there is a 60 percent chance of precipitation. 

Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 42.
