The Georgia Department of Transportation began overnight lane closures Tuesday as part of resurfacing Ga. 400 from Ga. 306 in Forsyth County to Ga. 53 in Dawson County.
The $3.2 million, 8.7-mile project calls for workers to remove 1 inch of asphalt and replace it with new asphalt, working in one lane at a time. Work will begin at the busy Ga. 53 intersection.
The work involves removing asphalt stretches on one night and replacing it the next, so drivers in between those times will have to cope with some rough pavement.
Work is set to occur overnight Sundays through Thursdays. Southbound lane closure hours are 5:30 p.m.-5:30 a.m. and northbound work hours are 8 p.m.-8 a.m. as weather permits.
The contractor is C.W. Matthews Contracting Inc. of Marietta.
The project's completion date is Nov. 30.
