One man was killed and two others injured Friday morning when the Geo Tracker they were traveling in on Shoal Creek Road in Dawson County left the roadway and hit a tree. No other vehicles were involved.

Dawson County Chief of Emergency Services Lanier Swafford confirmed there was one fatality in the wreck that occurred just before 6:45 a.m., near the intersection of Shoal Creek Road and Hwy. 136.

According to Dawson County Sheriff's Office Lt. Tony Wooten, Timothy B. Pettyjohn, 19, of Carlton, died as a result of the crash.

"It was raining at the time. Weather obviously was a factor. That is all I can say at this time," Wooten said.

Authorities have not said whether or not Pettyjohn was the driver of the vehicle.

“The two critical patients were transported by ground ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville,” Swafford said.

Dawson County Sheriff Billy Carlisle said the investigation has been turned over to Georgia State Patrol.

Friday’s early morning collision is the county’s tenth traffic related death of 2008.

Two Dawson County teens were killed on Nix Bridge Road in January when the car they were in crossed the centerline and collided with a school bus.

A month later, Christopher Sams and his unborn daughter were killed in a collision near the Dawson-Forsyth County line on Hwy. 53.

The next day, an elderly woman was killed when she careened down an embankment in west Dawson County.

On April 10, a Forsyth County woman was killed when an unlicensed driver in a log truck lost control on Kelly Bridge Road, followed by the death of a Blue Ridge man in May, who lost control of his vehicle on Hwy. 183.

Patrick “Steven” Combs, of Dawsonville, was killed in the early morning hours of Sept. 10 in a one-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hwy. 53 and Hugh Stowers Road in Dawson County.

Randall Faucett, 52, was killed when the dump truck he was driving overturned at Wild Turkey and Red Fox roads inside Big Canoe on Oct. 14.
