Annual event is Saturday

The Dawson County Parks and Recreation Department is offering residents a holiday combo deal.

For $5, children can get their picture made with Santa Claus, eat breakfast and enjoy some cartoons at the Rock Creek Sports Complex from 7:45 to 10 a.m. Saturday morning during the second annual Breakfast with Santa event.

Parks and Recreation Program and Facilities Director Buffie Hamil said it’s a “good way for families to come out, get some food and spend time with Santa for a low price.”

Hamil said Dawson County and sponsors don’t make money on the event.

“It’s more of a community service,” she said.

She said more than 200 visitors came to last year’s event, where Santa Claus arrived with the National Guard.

This year, he’s coming in on a hot air balloon.

Hot air balloon rides will be available as well at $5 for 17 and under and $10 for those 18 and up.

Those looking to see Santa come in on a hot air balloon should show up at 7:45 a.m., Hamil said.

Children can watch cartoons inside the Rock Creek building, while eating breakfast.

“We’re hoping to have even more people this year than last year,” Hamil said.
