Ornament sales are under way at local elementary schools. The funds raised by these sales will benefit K.A.R.E. for Kids. The ornaments are made by art teachers and their students.

Robinson Elementary kicked off its inaugural run this year with art teacher John Lundy at the helm.

"I wanted to sell ornaments to raise money, but I didn't know where the money should go," said Lundy. "I thought K.A.R.E. for Kids would be a good place to donate the money. I wanted something that would affect the kids in the school directly."

The ornament sale for Robinson has already raised $1,000 for the charity in the two weeks it has been active. The sale began in November and will end Dec. 19.

Decorations range in price from $1 to $7 for ornaments and $35 for wreathes.

Third graders at Kilough Elementary are also gearing up to help.

Kilough Elementary's market day will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday with its proceeds also going to K.A.R.E. for Kids.

Ornaments will be sold to the entire school with shoppers visiting third grade classrooms to purchase items.

K.A.R.E. for Kids is a nonprofit organization that aims to provide Christmas, as well as other necessities, to under-privileged children in Dawson County.
