The local chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America is accepting applications for its 2011 scholarship program.

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior at Dawson County High School.

The applicant must be a descendant of a United States military veteran of the Vietnam War or of a Vietnam-era veteran.

Applicants must be in financial need to meet college or university educational expenses, maintain above average grades and demonstrate a spirit of volunteerism and community involvement.

Applications may be picked up at the guidance counselor’s office at the school. Deadline is April 29, 2011.
