GDOT announces nightly resurfacing on Hwy. 53

The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced nightly single lane closures on Hwy. 53 in Dawson County due to resurfacing work.

According to a GDOT press release the closures will take place on Hwy. 53 from Elliott Family Parkway to south of Chestatee Heights Road.

Weather permitting, the project has an estimated completion date of December 2020, and will affect approximately 15 miles of roadway, the release said. 

Closures will occur at the following times: 

  • Sunday through Thursday, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. 
  • Between 9 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday
  • Between 9 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday

Lane closures will not occur during certain times during the Dawsonville Moonshine Festival (Between 8 p.m. Friday until 10 p.m. Sunday). Closures will also not occur anywhere on Ga. 400 and the Displaced Left Turn intersection, the release states.
