After 10 weeks of class and several eye-opening experiences, the inaugural class of the Dawson County Citizens Academy graduated last Tuesday night.

Thirty-five local citizens signed up for the course, which was taught by Dawson County Government staff and gave participants an up-close look at the inner workings of county government through one-on-one interaction with local officials and those responsible for day-to-day operations of government.

“Too often, government is a mystery to the citizen. Our only contact is when we’re paying taxes or dealing with law enforcement. I am much more informed,” graduate John Perodeau said.

Dawson County Citizens Academy will be offered again next spring.

Anyone interested in placing his or her name on a waiting list may contact Cathy Brooks, Dawson County Government and Community Affairs at (706) 344-3501, Ext. 255 or by e-mail at cbrooks@dawsoncounty.org.
