The community is invited to a “green” ribbon cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. Thursday to officially kickoff the county’s new single stream recycling program.

The celebration will take place at the county’s transfer station and recycling center, located at 946 Burt Creek Road.

The new setup allows the county to accept a wide range of recyclable material, including aluminum and steel cans, plastics No. 1-7, plastic grocery bags, glass bottles and glass jars, newspapers, magazines, mail, office papers and cardboard.

All recyclables are placed in the same container and compacted into small, tight bales that are taken to another location to be separated and sold.

“I want to invite everyone to our green ribbon cutting this Thursday to see our new single-stream recycling center, which has been in place for over a week now and has been well accepted by our residents,” said Dawson County Manager Kevin Tanner.

He added the county expects to take in more than double last year’s recyclables with the new program this year.
