Local residents are reeling after a fire broke out at a home on Blacks Mill Road Sunday evening, causing extensive damage according to Dawson County Emergency Services Chief Lanier Swafford.
The call came in at 6:20 p.m. Dec. 10, Swafford said. Initial arriving units reported that fire was showing from the attic area of the home.
Dawson County units were assisted by Forsyth County Fire Department in responding to the fire.
At this time the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Red Cross was called to assist the family after the fire.
A GoFundMe was set up by Stephen Watson to help raise money for the family. Watson says he started to GoFundMe to raise money for his girlfriend’s family who lost everything – including Christmas presents – in the fire. There were six people living in the home, Watson said, the youngest being a 4-year-old boy.
“The family is devastated,” the GoFundMe reads.
As of press time, the GoFundMe has raised $705 of its $5,500 goal in one day.
The family is in need of clothing items, toys, presents, food, toiletries and basic necessities. They have asked for gift cards to Wal-Mart to purchase food items and necessities.
