Restriping of the passing lane on Hwy. 53 east between Hugh Stowers Road and Buddy Burt Road will begin tomorrow, according to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The release states that the project will convert the second westbound lane, or current passing lane, into a two-way left turn lane.
The project's completion date is Aug. 1, and drivers can expect single lane closures starting on Tuesday, according to the release.
Contractors can work daily between 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. the following day.
"Please slow down when approaching the work zone, workers will be in close proximity to the roadway," the release states.
GDOT announced they would be beginning the project in a letter to state Rep. Kevin Tanner on June 26.
Tanner had asked GDOT to evaluate this section of the highway after a high school senior was killed in February in the area known as the "Dell Conner curve" before Buddy Burt Road, a frequent spot for deadly car wrecks.
