Two men were arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase on several county roads Sunday afternoon.

Around noon Oct. 15, Joshua Bush, 28, of Dahlonega, was driving a black Ford Mustang with passenger Michael McElroy, 39, of Dawsonville, near Hammond’s Crossing in north Forsyth when a Forsyth County deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, according to Deputy Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

“The deputy noticed the Mustang’s registration was suspended for no insurance and a traffic stop was attempted but the Mustang fled,” he said. “After [chasing] the vehicle, we successfully used spike strips, which blew out one tire on [Highway] 369, but the car continued to Ga. 400 northbound.

“There, Georgia State Patrol [troopers] assisted in the chase and a trooper was able to make successful [Pursuit Intervention Technique] maneuver, which forced the Mustang into the median, at which time it flipped over.”

Rainwater said both men were transported to a local hospital with non-life threating injuries and were released several hours later.

Both were charged with possession of methamphetamine, which was found in the car after it flipped just north of Hwy. 369 on Ga. 400.

Bush was also charged with: driving with a suspended registration; reckless driving; fleeing and attempting to elude; speeding; following to close; failure to maintain lane; improper passing and suspended and cancelled driver’s license.

McElroy was charged with violation of probation. He was previously convicted of and served time for aggravated assault, possession of methamphetamine and fleeing and attempting to elude in Forsyth County.

He is being held without bond at the Forsyth County Jail.

Bush also remains in jail on a $22,300 bond.
