Waves of heavy showers have soaked north Georgia Thursday, leading to the partial wash out of one bridge in northwestern Dawson County,  according to the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.

Thursday evening, the local law enforcement agency also reported accidents on multiple roadways.

A National Weather Service flood watch was previously extended for areas including Dawson County.

The flood watch will remain in effect through Saturday evening, the NWS alert stated.

Widespread rainfall amounts of two to four-plus inches of rain are expected in the north Georgia area through Saturday, an updated NWS hazardous outlook stated.

The excessive rainfall could result in flooding of rivers and creeks, as well as other low-lying, flood-prone locations.

“If you encounter flooded roadways, turn around, don't drown!,” the weather agency said in a previous Facebook post.

Thunderstorms and rain showers are predicted to linger into Friday for the Dawson area before tapering off and then resuming on Saturday.
