Flood warning issued for south Dawson, northwest Forsyth counties amidst heavy rains

A river flood warning has been issued for the Etowah River in southern Dawson and northwest Forsyth counties, according to a National Weather Service alert. 

This warning includes the area of the Etowah River near Highway 9.

Old Federal and Nicholson roads are closed in northwest Forsyth County, the alert stated. 

The flood warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Friday, the NWS alert stated.

The Etowah River at Highway 9 has reached the minor flood stage, 13 feet, as of early Thursday morning.

It could rise to a crest of 15.7 feet, near moderate flood stage, later in the morning before falling below flood stage Thursday evening, according to the alert.
