Carol Whitaker, 81, of Dawsonville, died Oct. 21, 2013.

Born Jan. 5, 1932, in Dawson County to the late Hoke and Gladys Anderson, she lived a number of years in Merritt Island, Fla., before returning to Dawson County 23 years ago.

While in Florida, she was employed several years in the cash office of Montgomery Ward and after returning worked a number of years at Sears in Gainesville.

Carol was a very loving and giving person who was devoted to her family and will always be remembered for her beautiful smile.

She was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Carroll H. Whitaker; and a son, Anthony "Tony" DeLong, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Greg and Sandy DeLong of DeLand, Fla., Debbie and Jeff Brown of Cortland, Ohio, Sandra and Richard Kritikos, Karen DeLong, all of Dawsonville; sister, Joan Caine of Dawsonville; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Peggy Anderson of Cumming; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Oct. 23 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Sorrells officiating. Interment followed in Sawnee View Gardens.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
