Gwen Higgins, 51, of Dawsonville, died Dec. 8, 2014.
Born Aug. 3, 1963 in Forsyth County, she had lived in Lumpkin County since 2004.
For several years she owned and operated the Forsyth County Ambulance Service, after which she continued working in the medical field as an office manager for physicians and as a nurse at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
After her medical career, she traveled working in hotel management in Alaska, Washington, Colorado and then back to Dahlonega.
Gwen was very devoted to her family, especially her grandson.
Her father, R. Donald Higgins, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Ryan and Sam McDuffie of Summerville, Ben and Yan McCormick of Tampa, Fla.; mother, Patsy Higgins of Dahlonega; grandson, Grayson McDuffie; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Ricky Kirkland of Cumming, Kelly and Lee Adkins of Dawsonville; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Stephanie Higgins of Dahlonega; various other relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Dec. 11 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ruel Martin officiating. Interment followed in the Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
