John Devereux Marshall, 71, of John's Creek died July 24, 2014.

Born in Olympia, Wash. to Frederic Devereux Marshall and Helen Theresa Marshall, he graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1964and West Virginia University College of Law in 1967.

After law school, he served in the Army as a captain, Judge Advocate General from 1967-1971, stationed at Fort Stewart in Hinesville, Ga. and Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah.

Upon completion of his service, he continued his career for more than 40 years as an attorney specializing in labor law.

He enjoyed golf, sailing, political history, following the local sports teams and too much more to list.

He was an active member of his local church, First Redeemer Church and devoted to the Lord.

Survivors include his fiancée, Paula Rayl; children, Bruce Marshall and Beth Dorian; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Maria Marshall, and David Dorian; ex-wife and mother of their two children, Cheryl Ryans; grandchildren, Amanda Marshall, Thomas Marshall, Ella Marshall and Bryce Dorian; sisters, Nancy Marshall, Mary Jane Ewing, Patricia Nothstein and Carol Ann Marshall; various other relatives also survive.

He also leaves behind his beloved companion "Taylor", who is an 11-year-old golden retriever he adopted just last year.

A memorial Service was held at 2 p.m. Aug. 2 at the McDonald and Son Chapel.
