John Joseph Dumphy, 78, of Cumming, died June 27, 2015.
Born August 29, 1936 in Worcester, MA to the late T. Francis and Mary Dumphy, he had lived in Forsyth County since 2006 having moved from Keller, Texas.
Mr. Dumphy was a graduate of St. John's High School in Worcester, earned a law degree from Boston University and received an undergraduate degree from The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.
He practiced law in Springfield, Mass. until his retirement.
John was a U. S. Marine Corp veteran, was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, enjoyed golf and was an avid Red Sox fan.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Francis Dumphy.
Surviving include his wife of 53 years, Betsy Dumphy of Cumming; sons and daughters in law, Jay and Cathy Dumphy, Palatine, Ill., Charley and Deb Dumphy, of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Colin, Olivia and Joe Dumphy; sister, Maribeth McGowan, of Arizona; brother, Fr. Charles Dumphy, of Shrewsbury, Mass; various other relatives also survive.
A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. July 3 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Fr. Frank Richardson and Fr. Charles Dumphy officiated. Interment will be held in Georgia National Cemetery at a later date.

Bearden Funerla Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
