John J. Mazzei Sr., 66, of Dawsonville, died Oct. 2, 2014.

John Sr. was a drummer for Jay and the Americans until the late 1960s when he took over raising his two sons. He drove a school bus in Mahopac, N.Y. for 23 years until moving to Georgia to be close to his mother after retiring from the school.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Mazzei; sister, Lisa Logan; mother, Margaret (Peggy) Volmar; sons, Peter and John Mazzei Jr.; daughter, Cariann Mazzei; grandchildren, Jake, Jamilee, Cassidy, Amanda and Dylan Mazzei; nieces, Olivia, Fraisia and Bellamy Logan; various other relatives also survive.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville is in charge of the arrangements.
