Johnny Dale Morris, 66, of Dawsonville, died June 21, 2012.

He was born Oct. 11, 1945 in Harlan County, Ky.

He graduated from Hall High School and attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky.

He was a medic in the U.S. Army. He joined the police department in Wise, Va. and was the youngest police officer in the state of Virginia at that time.

Survivors include his loving wife, Janice Sue (Sams) Morris of Dawsonville; sons, Bobby and Dawnya Morris, Michael and Susan Ellis and Brian and Jonna Ellis; grandchildren, Kay, Joshua, Matthew, Joshua and Bryanna; brother, Bob and Helen of Harland, Ky.; sister, Etta Jo Maynard of Gordonsville, Va.; father and mother-in-law, Perry and Alice Sams; various other relatives also survive.

He was a cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at the Great Lakes Veterans National Cemetery at a later date.

Byars Funeral Home of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
