Thomas L. "Luke" Pettyjohn, 89, of Big Canoe, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009.

  

Born in Walker County, he lived most of his life in Athens, Ga. He retired from the United States Postal Service, after which he moved to Big Canoe 20 years ago.

  

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mable Pettyjohn of Big Canoe; daughter, Carol Hitt of Big Canoe; various other relatives also survive.

  

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 17 at the Big Canoe Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Lamar Helms officiating.

  

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to the Georgia Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, 1330 West Peachtree Street NE, Suite 410, Atlanta, GA 30309.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
