William E. "Junior" Garrett, 85, of Dawsonville, died May 18, 2015.
Born Jan. 21, 1930, to the late William E. and Lula Garrett, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.
Affectionately known as "Papa June Bug," Junior retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 20 years of service.
He was a former volunteer fire fighter and was a founding member of the Kilough Community Club.
He was a deacon of Harmony Baptist Church and enjoyed reading western books, movies and was an avid NASCAR fan.
His wife of 53 years, Juanita Couch Garrett; daughters, Linda Garrett Ramirez, Sharon Garrett, Denise Garrett; son-in-law, Johnny Waters; sisters, Hattie Grace Wallace, Mescal Little, Nadine Lynn, Winnie Brookshire; brothers, Kenneth Garrett, Leamon Garrett and Holmes Garrett, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter, Eva "Jo" Waters of Dawsonville; son and daughter-in-law, William E. "Bill" III and Elaine Garrett of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Melissa and Patrick McDougal, Wendy and Jeremy McGinnis, Michael Ramirez, Emma Garrett, Chris Garrett; great-grandchildren, Katie McDougal, Sarah McDougal, Sydney McGinnis, Ben McGinnis, Ryan McGinnis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leland and Norma Jean Garrett of Dawsonville, Wayne and Louise Garrett of Gainesville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Dean Couch, Bobbie Holland, both of Dawsonville, Ferman Brookshire of Gainesville; various other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. May 20 at Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Tony Holtzclaw and C.B. Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Moss Memorial Gardens.
