Willie Eugene "Gene" Roper, 76, of Cumming, died May 5, 2017.

He was of the Holiness Faith and a member of Lighthouse for Jesus Church.

He was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame.

Gene played country music for 50 years and continued his love for music by playing gospel music for area nursing homes.

His parents, Bill and Ola Roper; twin sister, Willa Mae Webb, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 57 1/2 years, Peggy Roper of Cumming; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Paul Collum of Dawsonville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Liz Roper of Woodstock, Ronnie and Diane Roper of Dallas; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Seldon Waters of Cumming; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Della and Roy Haynes of South Carolina; grandchildren, Amanda and Jason Anglin of Dahlonega, Alana and Dylan Barrett of Suwanee; great-grandchild, Jerry Paul Anglin; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. May 9 in the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ray Gober and Nathan Hewatt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to Ingram Funeral Home to offset funeral expenses.
Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
