Coming off his worst finish in his Nationwide Series career, Chase Elliott is ready to head to Dover International Speedway where he said "anything short of winning is just not good enough."
Elliott's 37th place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway Saturday dropped him to third in the standings, 28 points behind JR Motorsports teammate Regan Smith and 23 points behind second-place Elliott Sadler.
"We had a parts failure that cost us big time," Elliott said after the race. "Honestly, the issue started out in qualifying and eventually hurt us when it counted."
Elliott started the day with handling problems, but it was the parts failure that occurred with the front suspension that pushed him into the wall on lap 88 and caused enough damage to send the #9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet to the garage for repairs.
The team was able to get him back on the track after 26 laps to avoid losing more points.
Kyle Larson won the race, and Smith finished seventh, enough to take the points lead Elliott has held since mid-April.
"I can tell you one thing. We have some work to do before heading to Dover next week. This team can get the job done, so we'll prepare to rebound next weekend," Elliott said.
Qualifying begins at 10:40 a.m. Saturday for the Buckle Up 200 presented by Click It or Ticket. The race will air on ESPN. Green flag waves at 2:15 p.m.
