Dawson County was on "cloud nine" after winning its first five games of the season. Unfortunately, that came to an end last week as the Tigers dropped all three of their games. All three games were region 7-AAA match-ups.

"It was a tough week for us," said Head Coach Thad Burgess. "We are really falling in a hole falling to 0-3 in the region, in a region that is very good."

Three teams in Region 7-AAA are currently ranked in the top 10: Buford, West Hall and White County.

The March 10 game saw the Tigers waste an excellent game from pitcher Logan Burt. Burt, a senior, record 13 strikeouts, while surrendering just six hits and two walks in a 5-3, nine inning loss, to West Hall.

Dawson County held the lead 2-1 until the Spartans scored two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to take the win.

The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough.

On March 12, the Tigers traveled to Oakwood to play West Hall again on a very windy day.

The Tigers lost a heartbreaking 11-7 decision to the Spartans. Dawson County jumped out to a 6-2 lead just to see that advantage evaporate in the sixth inning. The Spartans scored seven runs in the inning, including a grand slam by West Hall's Michael Cronic.

JT Eggert took the loss on the mound for the Tigers.

Dawson County took a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning. Zach Buchan started the inning with a single. Buchan scored on a two-out single by Harley Pruitt. Burgess then brought in pinch hitter Luke Martin. Martin responded with a double that scored Pruitt and Levi Whitmire.

In the next inning, the Tigers extended their lead to 6-2 on a hit by Pruitt with bases loaded. Scoring were Buchan and Whitmire.

Then the comeback was on for the Spartans.

The Tigers added another run in the seventh inning off Pruitt's fourth hit of the game.

West Hall is currently 6-2 overall on the season.

Dawson County finished the week with a game in Cleveland against an excellent White County team.

The Tigers dropped the contest by an 8-6 score.

Dawson County started out with a 1-0 lead. Whitmire singled to lead-off the first inning. A passed ball advanced Whitmire to second base. Whitmire scored on an RBI single by Brody Chester.

Chester finished the game going 4-for-4 from the plate.

The Warriors answered with three runs in their half of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead.

White County also scored three more runs in the second inning to extend the team's advantage to 6-1.

Burgess' team fought back. Dawson County scored three runs in the fourth inning to bring the score to 6-4. Austin Martin and JT Eggert both had RBI doubles in the inning. Logan Burt added an RBI single.

Dawson County added another run in the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough.

The Tigers are currently 5-3 overall and 0-3 in region play.

Up next for Dawson County will be a game at home with North Hall. The Tigers will travel to North Hall on Friday. The game is set for 5:55 p.m.

The Trojans are currently 5-3 and 3-0 in region play.

"We just have to keep focused and believe in what we are doing. We have six weeks and 18 games left, a lot of baseball to be played," Burgess said.
