Dawson County High School Head Coach Arron Haynes and his girl’s track team made a statement last Saturday at the Eagle Invitational held at East Jackson High School in Commerce.
The Lady Tigers won first place, defeating seven other schools.
Participating teams included: Dawson County, East Jackson, Jackson County,
Habersham Central, Commerce, Banks County, Oglethorpe County and Rabun
County.
It was the second year in a row that the Lady Tigers have won this event.
Madalyn Walters had a big day for her Dawson County team. She set a new school record in the 3,200 meters (2-miles) with a time of 12:06.
Walters also won the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:56 and was a part of the winning 4 x 400 meter relay team. Along with Morgan Bennett, Kerstin Hlinski and Tiffanie Rowan. The team won the event with a time of 4:37.
Walters wasn’t the only Lady Tiger to set a new school record.
Jade Hyde tied the school record in the pole vault with a vault of 7’0” to win first place.
The 4 x 200 meter team of Judith Hall, Hovan, Morgan Williams and Kimberly Wallace set a new school record with a time of 1:56 to capture first.
Also winning first place for the girls were Gracie Hovan in the triple jump with a leap of 31’7.”
The 4 x 100 meter team of Hall, Hovan, Wallace and Hlinski crossed the finish line first with a time of 53.52.
Hlinski finished second in the high jump with a leap of 4’8.”
Also capturing second place was the 4 x 800 meter team of Walters, Rachel Gloeckner, Kortney Dunford and Summer Lewis with a time of 12:15.
Morgan Williams finished third in the long jump with a leap of 14’2.”
Haynes wasn’t able to attend the event and his assistants took his place.
“Coach Lundy and Coach Coker did a phenomenal job with the team in my absence. They are two of the best assistants I could ever ask for,” said Haynes.
