The Dawson County High School Tigers wrestling team traveled to Blessed Trinity last week for a tri-match with Milton and Blessed Trinity.
Head Coach Arron Haynes' team wrestled hard Dec. 6 and defeated Milton, 48-30, before losing to Blessed Trinity, 41-30, in a very close match.
Milton dominated the lower weight classes before Dawson mounted a comeback starting at the 132-pound division.
Dawson's Cory Jenkins pinned Preston Hinkel from Milton to get things rolling for the Tigers.
Travis Dawson followed with a 7-0 defeat over Brandon Davis in the 138-pound weight class.
Pins from Levi Pressley (145 pounds), Gavin Brown (170 pounds) and Keaton Toal (195 pounds) helped secure the win for the Tigers.
Picking up valuable points were Preston Adams (152 pounds) with a 5-3 win over John Abney.
Winning by forfeit were Evan Kells (182 pounds), Josh Gee (195 pounds) and Colton Chester (285 pounds).
In a very exciting match with Blessed Trinity the Tigers fell just short. The team lost 41-30.
The Tigers picked up points by pin by Gavin Brown (170 pounds) over Christopher Hagemeyer and Jose Gee (285 pounds) by sticking Michael Olson.
Haynes' team also got points from Quade Bytendorp (113 pounds) by forfeit, James Evans (126 pounds) with a 4-2 win over Kyle Evans, Evan Kells (182 pounds) picked up a forfeit, and Keaton Toal (195 pounds) won an 11-7 decision over Michael Reagan.
Dawson will compete at 5 p.m. Friday when the team travels to Fannin County for a match against the Rebels.
The Tigers will travel to Toccoa on Dec. 20 to compete in a tri-match with Stephens County and Smokey Mountain, N.C. Matches will begin at 4 p.m.
