Head Coach Thad Burgess and his Dawson County Tiger basketball team traveled to Auburn University last Thursday. The team played summer games against some of the best teams in Alabama and the Southeast during the 3-day camp.

“We beat the teams we should have,” said Burgess.

One of those wins was a 20-point shellacking of Lakeview Academy from Gainesville.

The Tigers also were matched up with new Region 8-AA foe East Hall. Dawson lost to the Vikings on a missed 3-pointer at the buzzer.

“I believe that game should give us some confidence when we play them twice next season. We have not been able to compete with them over the years,” Burgess said.

Dawson County returned on Saturday from the grueling camp.

The team finished its summer workouts last Tuesday at South Forsyth High School with games against South Forsyth and Chattahoochee high schools.

“We have played 30 games this month. I think we have really come together as a team,” Burgess said.
