The Dawson County High School varsity wrestling team picked up a 42-33 win over Buford Jan. 18. It was the 19th win of the season for the Tigers.
Anthony Underwood (103), Andrew Lovingood (140), Charlie Short (145) and Preston Adams (152) pinned their opponents to pick up six points for the team.
Tigers James Evans (112) won 6-5 over his Buford opponent. Also winning by decision was David Wood (135) in a close 8-7 victory.
Timothy Blythe (119) and Evan Kells (160) won by way of forfeit.
The Tigers struggled in the upper weight classes. The team lost at the 171, 189, 215, and heavyweight classes.
“We wrestled very well against a very good and physical Buford team,” said Head Coach Arron Haynes.
“David Wood had a great match against a top notch wrestler for Buford and pulled out a win while recovering from sickness. We also had a very good showing from Charlie Short and Preston Adams. Anthony Underwood also had a breakthrough match,” he added.
Earlier this season Haynes’ surpassed the 150-win mark as a head coach. He currently has compiled 168 wins while at Dawson County High School.
