The Riverview Middle school eighth grade girls basketball team won a thriller over Jasper Middle School on Nov. 21.
With only four players on the floor and trailing Jasper by two points, Head Coach Natosha Beary called a timeout with only 3.2 seconds remaining in the game. Following the timeout, Kati Brady nailed a winning 3-pointer to give the Lady Eagles a come from behind win, 31-30.
"I told the girls what to do and they executed perfectly," Beary said. "They fought hard and poured their hearts out on the floor. I was so proud of our team and the accomplishments that we made in this game. Our defense stayed strong, boxed out and pulled some big rebounds."
Brady led all scorers with a game-high 15 points.
Also scoring for Riverview were: Zoe Grindstaff, five points; Anna Lowe, four points; Ashley Stanfill, three points; Natalie Gee, two points; Gabby Buchan, one point and Bre Moody with one point.
On Friday the team traveled to Ellijay to face a tough Clear Creek Middle School team.
The team fought the entire ballgame but came up on the short end of a 26-22 score.
"The girls came off an emotional win against Jasper the previous night and laid everything they had out on the floor. We played well against Clear Creek and stayed ahead the entire game until the fourth quarter. The girls just ran out of steam, which allowed Clear Creek to slip ahead of them. They continue to build their confidence each game and look more and more like a unit. I was proud of the way we played and am excited to see what's ahead for these girls," Beary said.
Brady led all scorers with 12 points. Brady was followed by Lady Eagle teammates Moody with six points; Grindstaff and Schandera contributed two points each.
The team will host Dawson County Middle at 5:15 p.m. Dec. 6.
