The Dawson County Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team was recognized at the Feb. 12 board of education meeting for their impressive season record. The team finished with a season record of 14-0 and was crowned the Mountain League Champions.
Head Coach Natosha Beary said she was impressed by her team’s selflessness this year.
“Really, truly, the unselfishness of this group is just mind-blowing,” Beary said. “To go 14-0… it’s an honor in itself, but I had to get on to the girls for being too unselfish.”
Beary said more times than not, she had to get onto the girls for passing the ball to their teammates instead of taking the shots themselves.
“They could have taken the shot their self, but they weren’t concerned about their self. They were concerned about their teammate and whether they made the score or pass or whatever. They truly care about each other,” Beary said. “For me as a coach, it’s really a blessing to be able to work with girls like that.”
