Head coach Steven Moates' seventh grade Dawson County Middle School boys basketball team picked up its second win of the season with a 24-15 victory over Pickens County Middle recently in Jasper.
Dawson held a 14-7 lead at halftime behind leading scorer Parker Cantrell. Cantrell finished the Nov. 17 game with a team-high 9 points.
The third quarter was tough for the Tigers on offense. The team was outscored 4-0 by the Dragons. Dawson held tight to a 14-11 advantage.
The Tigers picked up 10 points in the final quarter to get the win.
"Kolton Brumbelow did a great job at point guard for us. He made great decisions all night with the basketball," Moates said.
"We had a tough night shooting, but we did finish strong in the fourth quarter when we needed points. We need to focus more on running our offense as a team. I'm proud of the guys for fighting through it and getting the win," he added.
Scoring for the Tigers were: Cantrell - 9 points, Colin Glover - 6 points, Brumbelow - 5 points, Nick Murphy - 2 points and Joseph Cronan - 2 points.
The Tigers will play at 4 p.m. Thursday when the team will travel to Blue Ridge to the take on Fannin County Middle.
